Mirevoir makes one piece a month. It opens at midnight on the first, it is made in a number decided beforehand, and when that number is gone the edition closes for good. Everything below follows from those three lines.
The drops
How a month works.
- How does a drop work?
- We make one piece for one month. It carries a drop number, the month it was made for, and a fixed edition size. On the first it opens; when the last piece of the edition is claimed it closes, and its page stays up as a record of what it was. On the first of the next month, a different piece takes its place.
- When exactly does a drop open?
- Midnight on the first of the month, house time. The house keeps Vancouver time, so every drop opens at 00:00 there no matter where you are reading this. There is no early access, no pre-release and no second opening later in the month.
- How long does a drop last?
- Until the edition is gone. Some have gone inside an hour, others have stood for a few days. A drop ends when the last piece is claimed or when the month ends, whichever comes first — there is no extension.
- Why does everything on this site say sold out?
- Because it is. Every edition shown here has closed. These pages are a record of the year rather than a shop floor, which is why there is no cart on them and nothing to add to one. The only thing still ahead of you is the next drop.
- Is anything ever restocked?
- No. Nothing is remade, reissued, or brought back later in a slightly altered formula. There is no back-in-stock notice because there is no back in stock. It is the one promise the house is built on, and the year would mean nothing without it.
- How many pieces are made?
- Between two hundred and fifty and four hundred, depending on what the piece is. The number is set before the drop opens — never afterwards, and never in answer to demand. Each edition size is printed on that drop’s page and does not move.
- I missed it. What happens now?
- Nothing, and we would rather say so plainly than keep you refreshing. The piece you missed will not return. The next one opens at midnight on the first, and the list is the only place it is announced. The year so far is on the drops.
The list
One message, the morning of.
- How will I know when the next drop opens?
- We write to you the morning it opens, once. That is the whole service. No countdown emails, no reminder the week before, no second nudge in the afternoon — one message, with the piece and the hour in it.
- Will you send me anything else?
- Nothing. There is no newsletter behind the list and no other reason we would write. Your address is used for that one message a month, and it is never forwarded or sold. The short version is on privacy.
- How do I leave the list?
- Every message carries a way out at the foot of it, and it takes effect at once. If you would rather not go looking, write to [email protected] and we will take you off the same day, without asking why.
The products
What the object is.
- Are the pieces refillable?
- Where the format earns it. The matte lipstick and the pressed shadow are built around a brass case and a replaceable pan; a balm, an oil or a liner is not, because forcing a refill onto those makes a worse object. Refills belong to the edition and go out with it — we do not run a refill programme after a drop has closed.
- How long does a piece keep?
- Unopened, three years from the date struck into the base. Once opened, twelve months for a colour and six for anything carrying oil or water. Every piece has its batch and its period-after-opening on the underside, so you never have to guess.
- Are they tested on animals?
- No. Not by us, not by anyone working for us, and not by a third party as the price of selling somewhere. We do not sell into any market that would require it, and we have turned down the ones that do.
- Where are they made?
- In small runs in France and Italy — colour in Milan, balms and oils outside Paris, cases turned and lacquered in the Jura. The same two houses have made every drop since the first. We will name them to you if you ask.
- Where do I find what is in a piece?
- The full list is printed on the carton in the order it appears, and it is never shortened. If you are checking for one ingredient in particular, write to us and we will answer before a drop opens rather than after — that is the useful side of a date being known a month ahead.
Orders and delivery
How a piece travels.
- Where do you ship?
- Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union. A handful of other countries open and close as the carriers allow. If yours is not on the list when a drop opens, write to us and we will tell you honestly whether we can reach you rather than let you find out at the end.
- How long does delivery take?
- Two to four working days inside Canada and the United States, five to eight further out. Everything from a drop leaves us within two working days of the edition closing, and every piece travels tracked and boxed for glass.
- Can I return something?
- Fourteen days from the day it arrives, unopened and with the seal unbroken. Once a cosmetic has been used it cannot be taken back, for the same hygiene reason every house gives. Write to us first and we will send instructions rather than leave you to guess at an address.
- Something arrived damaged.
- Tell us within seven days and send a photograph of the piece and of the outer carton. Glass breaks in transit, and that is our problem rather than yours: we replace it from the edition’s reserve where a reserve still exists, and refund in full where it does not. You are never asked to send a broken thing back.
- Who pays duties and customs?
- Inside Canada and the European Union, a piece arrives with everything settled. Elsewhere the carrier may collect duty or tax at the door, set by your country and not by us. We declare the full value on every parcel — we will not mark a piece as a gift or write down what it is worth.
